If you’re out and about Christmas shopping in a large shopping centre this festive season, perhaps it might be a good idea to look around and take note of the elderly people you see.
Our shopping centres are large, spread out and often require much walking. So, imagine being in your 70’s, 80’s or 90’s and doing the Christmas shopping with mobility issues or being confused and overwhelmed.
Here are some great tips for helping the elderly who are Christmas shopping:
1. If they are queuing and you have the opportunity to step aside and let them be served quicker, please offer.
2. If they are looking lost or confused in a shopping centre, ask if you can help.
3. If you see they can’t reach an item, please offer to reach it for them.
4. If you have spare space at a table in a busy food court area, please offer to share the table with others, or save your table for an elderly person if you have finished your meal.
If we can all convey to our children the importance of being kind and respectful to the older generations, especially during Christmas, we will share a kinder world.
