With Australia’s ageing population and increased life expectancy, there are growing demands for Care Workers in our nation.
In fact, a career in aged care will be a long one as the needs of our ageing population threaten to catapult the number of trained workers.
According to McCrindle Research, in the next 30 years Australia will see an unprecedented rate of growth of the over 85 year-olds.
Job search website, Adzuna says in its Australia Job Market Report (February 2016) that the number of aged care job vacancies has more than doubled Australia-wide year on year, while the number of searches for aged care jobs has increased by 150 per cent, year on year. Despite this, there are still four times the number of aged care jobs than there are aged care job seekers.
“We have known for some time that Australia is ageing, and while right now the impact on the economy is minimal on the surface, we are starting to see changes to demand and supply of jobs and job seekers in some industries, especially in aged care but also healthcare in general,” said Raife Watson the CEO of Adzuna Australia.
At Oxley Home Care, we are constantly on the lookout for Care Workers who are passionate in caring for others.
From 4WD Adventure Leader to Care Worker with Oxley Home Care…
In fact, Michael Phillips used to be a Bus Driver/Tour Guide, a 4WD Adventure Leader and Tour Leader. A desire to spend more time with his grandchildren and a need for a change motivated him to change careers.
“It has turned out to be interesting and fulfilling beyond my initial expectations. I enjoy one-to-one interactions more at this stage of my life rather than one-to-50 on a coach tour.”
“Working for Oxley Home Care, I get the chance to take my time to understand and help people, which aligns with what I consider to be my innate strengths of compassion, patience, persistence and respect,” Michael Phillips said.
“We embrace the idea of identifying those people who want to change careers and who seek to bring their passion for caring for the elderly to a new role in the aged care sector. We fully support the transition of these people through providing training and development in Certificate III or IV in Aged Care. Oxley Home Care can offer a rewarding career to those looking for a role in the industry and those transitioning into the sector,” Gilian Douglass, General Manager of Oxley Home Care said.”
