Jeffery is 80 years old and is married with a supportive wife and 3 grown up children. Jeffery suffered a stroke and spent 3 months in hospital and rehabilitation. Jeffery was adamant he wanted to return home although hospital staff and family were a little doubtful he would be able to manage even with the support of home care services. Jeffery is eligible for government support with personal care services and his name was placed on the home care waiting list for packaged care which could take 6 – 12 months for a place to become available.

Jeffery’s daughter contacted Oxley senior home care services and our Care Coordinator visited Jeffery and his family at the hospital. The Coordinator and family discussed Jeffery’s personal care needs including equipment hire and minor home modification needs for his discharge from hospital. Care Workers were allocated to provide services three times per day to help with showering, dressing, toileting and transferring from bed to chair. Our Care Coordinator visited frequently to make sure all the services were going smoothly and checked the family was happy with the care workers that had been allocated to provide the services. Twice a week the Care Workers stay for the afternoon and this gives Jeffery’s wife Anne some time to go shopping and have a break from her caring role. After 4 months of care Jeffery has made good progress and is enjoying being at home. The government package has now become available which supplements some of the costs associated with the services.
